Strathalbyn has many sporting, hobby, community and service organisations, including football, netball, basketball, tennis, swimming, soccer, lawn bowls, theatre, gardening, Rotary, Lions, CWA and Probus. These organisations are committed to providing local events and recreational activities for everybody.

Strathalbyn also has many businesses and artists that have won major awards and are well-known at a state or national level. It is also home to a very active theatre group – Strathalbyn Players, a thriving gallery – Stationmasters Art Gallery, a lively Town Band and a Community Art & Craft Shop.

A community room at the Alexandrina Council Library and Community Centre complex (1 Colman Terrace) can be booked by community groups at a cost of $20 for the first two hours and $5 for every hour after.  Phone 8555 7000 or email alex@alexandrina.sa.gov.au.

Volunteering Opportunities

  •  Within the Strathalbyn Urban Centre, 1,129 people were engaged in volunteering at the time of the 2011 Census. This is approximately 26% of all persons aged 15 years and over that lived in the town at that time – compared to the South Australian average of 19.8%.
  • If you are a new resident to Strathalbyn, volunteering can be a great way to become quickly involved in the community. From a business perspective, it also makes good sense to demonstrate your willingness to contribute and commit to the local community in a broader capacity.
  • For further information on volunteering, go to the Alexandrina Council website.
